Save A Life. Be A Donor

It’s not often that I tackle a serious subject on my blog, or anything quite so personal, so I ask that you bear with me briefly.

Twelve years ago, my cousin passed away due to heart disease.  He could have been saved by a timely heart transplant.  After spending 10 long days as No. 1 on the donor list across 8 states, his heart arrived but it was too late to save him.   Ryan was only 21 years old at the time of his passing.  He missed out on what should have been a long life filled with laughter and tears, surrounded by the friends and family who loved him.

Ryan is missed by his family every day.  He had a wicked sense of humor and loved to fish.  He was a good friend.  Help me honor Ryan and save lives by becoming an organ and tissue donor right now.

According to OrganDonor.gov, 1 organ donor can save up to 8 lives.  One of those saved lives could very easily be someone you love.

Becoming an organ donor is usually as simple as a check box or signing your name on your driver’s license.  Don’t wait until the problem strikes your family.  Do it now.  Give two minutes of your time.  Take two minutes to become an organ donor and then you can proudly say to your friend, wife, husband, brother, sister, son, daughter, father, mother, enemy, “I saved lives today!”

Here is Ryan’s Story.

my husband received a heart 9 1/2 years ago. the donor was a 21 year old named Brandon. He was an organ donor. A lot of other people received organs from Brandon. It is an amazing thing for someone to do. My children and I are donors too
