Worldbuilding Continues With A Surprise

I sat down in the living room at the coffee table yesterday with my MP3 player and a legal pad. I started on the first of the essays that I would write regarding the history of the world that I'm creating. It involved a little real-life research but most of it came from my own noggin'. I love the history of this world and loved writing it. But will any of this information end up in the book? I have no idea. It's really good that I know it because it makes it easier to understand the actions and motivations of some of the people in the series. I would really like to include some of the information that I pulled together, but I don't want to blindly info dump into the books just so you think that what I know is cool. If I work any of in, it will appear as a random line or two in the novel.

However, I am sure that I will eventually get this info up on the website about the time that the first novel is released. I'm hoping to get a couple more essays done today and then I will be moving back to my edit letter, where I will start sketching out ideas for how I am going to address the changes that need to be made to the book.

It was late at night and I was watching a "meh" anime. I will admit that I have seen very few anime and don't know much about them, but I am addicted to the visual aspects of the stories. Some of the art is so vivid and lush. Just the combination of ideas is so far beyond what I would think of. After watching two episodes, I found myself staring off into space. The house was silent at just after 2 in the morning, and my mind was turning over my two obsessions: vampires and perfect white wings. Two things found at different ends of the spectrum, but similar in strange ways.

Unexpectedly, I found myself picking up the legal pad I had used earlier in the day and flipping to a fresh page. For an hour, I did something I hadn't done in years. Write just for the sake of writing. Since getting my publishing contract, all my writing has been directed toward working on things that I planned to have published. Before that, all writing was just for myself, with no plans for anyone else to ever seen it. Last night, I wrote just to for the sake of playing with language and emotions and ideas. There was something incredibly beautiful and freeing about it all. At this point, I don't think there's a high likelihood of anyone ever seeing what I wrote last night and I'm quite fine with it. It may never become anything or it could be the catalyst for something totally different. Right now, I'm quite content to keep these characters to myself. It's a love story ... but I can't see the happy ending.

That is very cool. I have a side project that will likely never see the light of day. If I'm down on editing book #2 or writing book #3, I can always fool around there and please myself at least.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you put up.

Good luck and have fun!

There is something incredibly beautiful and freeing about writing, especially when your thoughts flow in such a way that your mind, heart and soul feel seemless... You can really breathe the intangible into tangible form then. That is what makes art beautiful. Looking forward to your next book. :-)
