Playing in the Dirt

I spent my weekend playing in the dirt, which was a nice change a pace for once. Friday started off relatively quiet with a trip to the Cincinnati Zoo and then off to see Toy Story 3 -- yes, I did cry a little at the end. It was a great movie and I highly recommend it to anyone who loved the first two.

On Saturday, we bought mulch, dirt, and plants. We mulched the front flower bed and the side bed of daylilies and Asian lilies. The hosta bed at the back of the house was dug up and replanted as well as mulched. I am now contemplating getting a bird girl statue to go in the hosta bed since I am so in love with Savannah. I will have to think a little more about it since she is so expensive.

On Sunday, we finished the back of the house with a bed of six burning bushes and more mulch as well as put together a new glider for the patio under the deck. Overall, I have to say that the exterior of the house is now ready for my Fourth of July party. Now I just need to clean the inside of the house and buy lots of food. Oh, and fireworks. My family is already making big plans for fireworks.

Sunday finished off at my parents for a visit with my dad on Father's Day. It was a good weekend, though extremely exhausting. In the end, I didn't get around to checking my email or anything until late Sunday night. If you're expecting an email from me -- it will be coming soon.

Just to prove that I haven't been a complete slacker:

I have a guest post up over on the Deadline Dames that talks about writing areas and the important things that we find in our individual bat caves.

Also, I've over at Book Lovers Inc. today with an interview and a book giveaway! You don't want to miss out on this one!!

Keep an ear out this week, as another guest post will be going up later in the week as we count down the final days until the release of Pray for Dawn. Have you pre-ordered your copy?

The statue is beautiful, but I know they are really expensive. We have one burning bush and it's my favorite in the fall especially. It has these little berries/seeds that are bright red and stay on it most of the winter too, so it's a cool bush.

I'm SO far behind on my gardening. My weeds grew to gigantic proportions while we were on vacation for 2 weeks. YIKES!
