Cleaning, Packing, and Other Mundane Stuff

In case you were wondering, I did hit my goal on Wednesday and managed to hammer out a good chunk of words on Thursday. I am hoping to make a little headway tonight. However, the next round of edits for Nightwalker rolled in on Friday. This time, the pages are formatted to look like how they will appear in the book, which is really cool. We're getting down to the wire. We're down to the last edits and the cover quotes are starting to arrive. We now have less than seven months until the release. I know, I know... that's still a long time, but we're getting there.

Unfortunately, everything may be slowed up because I'm off to New York tomorrow for work. So, I'm trying to clean the house a little, finish my laundry, and ugh... pack. I always save packing for the last minute. It can't be helped. I'm a procrastinator when it comes to packing. And it doesn't help that I watch TV while packing. I have grabbed my digital camera and if I get the chance, I'll try to post some pictures while I am in the Big Apple.

Seven months may look very long, but quite honestly it is a very short time, when it comes to something so important. When will you get the chance to choose the cover?

Oh and have a great time in New York. I always wanted to go there. Have fun, even though you go there for business.

The cover has actually been done since about September and I don't get to do any choosing. My editor was kind enough to ask my thoughts while they were planning it, but authors generally don't get much say in their covers.

However, I will say that I think my cover rocks. My editor and her crew definitely know what they're doing!

I think this is a good thing, because I guess that these people know what will grab the reader's eye and sometimes a book is judged by the cover.

If you are happy then it's all good. I can't wait to see it.

Covers are 100% marketing and I am content to leave it up to the professionals. While you might try to adhere to the saying "don't judge a book by its cover," you have to admit that when wandering through a book store it's either the cover or the title that first catches your eye and BOTH must be approved by a marketing/sales group.
