Book Heaven

Hey! Look!
Jocelynn's still alive.

yeah... yeah... I've been lost in revisions and haven't stuck my head out for much recently.  I promise to give an update later this week.  Today, I'm here to talk about some of the awesome books that have been released recently.

The past two weeks have featured books from some of my favorite authors.  Just in case you haven't caught all the coolness that has come out recently, let me provide you with an interesting list.

Last week saw the release of the second book in Vicki Pettersson's Celestial Blues series.

Here is the back cover copy for The Lost:

Griffin Shaw and his wife were both murdered fifty years ago. Now a minor angel, Grif’s been granted permission to solve the mystery of his own death . . . if he helps the Pure angels guide those souls who might otherwise be Lost.

Souls like Jeap Yang, a drug addict in his final moments of life. Grif knows that death is coming, but he cannot intervene. However, Grif’s mortal lover, reporter Katherine “Kit” Craig, isn’t constrained by angelic protocol. If she can stop a death, she will.

But as Kit is about to find out, there are things more traumatic and evil than murder. A strange new drug is literally eating tweakers’ flesh from their bones, and Kit’s crusade to get it off the streets is set to propel her and Grif into a battle with a vicious drug cartel. They’ll have to scramble to stay alive, stay together, and choose their own fate . . . before it’s chosen for them.

 Then this week, we have:

The final book in Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series.  I have to admit that I haven't yet read this series because I don't typically read young adult, however, I loved her Shifters series so I am confident that Soul Screamers is awesome as well.

Here is the the back cover copy for With All My Soul.

What does it mean when your school is voted the most dangerous in America?

It's time to kick some hellion butt…

After not really surviving her junior year (does "undead" count as survival?), Kaylee Cavanaugh has vowed to take back her school from the hellions causing all the trouble. She's going to find a way to turn the incarnations of Avarice, Envy and Vanity against one another in order to protect her friends and finish this war, once and forever.

But then she meets Wrath and understands that she's closer to the edge than she's ever been. And when one more person close to her is taken, Kaylee realizes she can't save everyone she loves without risking everything she has.…

Soul Screamers, the last thing you hear before you die...

We also have the debut of a relatively new author's urban fantasy series.  I have read some other stories written by Rinda Elliott under another name and I love them, so I am anxious to start this book, which is waiting impatiently on my computer.

Here is the back cover copy for Dweller on the Threshold:

On a hunt to save her sister, the last thing Beri O’Dell needs is love. Aren’t demons bad enough?
Beri O’Dell, Book 1

Beri O’Dell is investigating paranormal creatures because she wants to know what she is. Taller and stronger than most men, she astral projects and can peel through dimensional layers to see the creatures and spirits beyond.

She once helped her foster sister, Detective Elsa Remington, track down killers in Jacksonville, Florida, but stopped when a nasty fire elemental turned her strength against her. Now, she finds herself pulled back when something steals Elsa’s soul and puts her into a coma.

With little time to spare, Beri searches for the reason behind her sister’s coma. She has help in her spirit guides Fred and Phro, but others come along for the ride, including a pyro-nervous witch, and an androgynous necromancer.

The last thing Beri needs is to fall in love with a mysterious stranger. But the handsome Minoan warrior Nikolos knows what creature she’s after because he’s battled it before.

It’s bad.

Really, really bad.

He calls it the Dweller on the Threshold.

Warning: Contains a worried heroine with no time, a witch with fire problems, a pissed-off necromancer, a trapped goddess, and a damned sexy, but scary, warrior. Throw in bloody battles, mass-murderer history lessons and a bit of sexy time and you get the start of Beri’s new life.

Need some vampires?  Jeaniene Frost's second book in the Night Prince series also came out this week.  Read more about the yummy Vlad and Leila in Twice Tempted.

Here is the back cover copy for Twice Tempted:

Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges
Leila’s psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn’t sure what the future holds. If that weren’t enough, her lover Vlad has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she’s also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won’t admit that he loves her . . .

Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity
Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity . . .

And last but certainly not least....
J.R. Ward's Lover at Last is FINALLY out.  If you've followed her Black Dagger Brotherhood series, you have likely been anxiously waiting for the story of Blay and Qhuinn. I'm a few books behind but I'm hoping to catch up with some summer reading. :)

Here is the back cover copy for Lover at Last:

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has finally found an identity as one of the most brutal fighters in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems to be within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another....

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: The male has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young—just as Qhuinn has always wanted for himself. It’s hard to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. As he’s learned firsthand.
Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions... but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn finally learns the true definition of courage, and two hearts who are meant to be together... finally become one.

If you're a lover of urban fantasy, then you are just jumping for joy at all the awesome that is now waiting to be read.  If only there were more hours in the day!  Happy Reading!
