I finally succeeded in finishing the revisions to BURN THE NIGHT on Tuesday and shipped the manuscript off to my editor. I was surprised by how much the book changed on me. The initial line edits deleted roughly 2,000 words from the book, bringing the word count total down to approximately 109,000. But don't worry, I completely made up for the lost words as I needed to add an entirely new plotline in order to tie up some loose ends.
original: 109,988 words vs. new: 132,291 words.
original: 358 pages vs. new: 426 pages
At the moment, this is the longest book of the series and most likely the longest book I have ever completed. (I've got a couple trunk novels that may never see the light of day, but I still don't think they are longer)
Overall, Mira and Danaus get to spend a little time developing their relationship, we get some interesting insight from a character that has seen very little screen time, a new look at an old character, and are finally introduced to a character that I've been dangling about for several books. I would love to say more, but I'm waiting for this book to get the final stamp of approval. I don't want to jinx myself.
After some celebration and time off yesterday, I am back at the grind today preparing some proposals for my agent and working on just some general email-related goodness. Of course, there's always the TO-DO list hanging on my refrigerator that I have been ignoring for the past few days.
In the meantime, I suggest that you go over and "LIKE" Avon Romance on Facebook. This publisher is giving away books for the rest of the month and you don't want to miss out on the fun. They have my book scheduled to be given away on October 23. Check it out!
Also, I recently discovered that BURN THE NIGHT is now up for pre-order on Amazon.com if you are interested in getting a jump on it now.
