Pirates, Fairies, and Family

Yep, I'm still alive. I stepped away from blogging for a little while to get some writing done. I'm behind where I wanted to be, but I'm not worried yet. I always drag my feet when writing the last chapter. It's always the slowest for me because some unexpected things tend to show up and I have to make changes to my plans for them. But all in all, I'm slowly chugging along.

For the curious, Mira posted a very nice blog entry today regarding the nightwalker concept of family. I think it is very informative. I'll probably be grabbing it up and adding a little to it before posting it on my own website.

Just so you don't think I'm all about work (hahaha.... as if you actually had that thought).

We got hit with one last downpour of snow recently. (I know, I promised not to talk about the weather any more ... I lied. It happens.) It was a really good snow, dumping more than a foot on the area in less than 24 hours. Hey, that's a good snowfall for us since we typically only get 2-3 inches at most in a single storm! It managed to shut down the city of Cincinnati for the day.

The best part was that it was the perfect kind of snow. Sticky. Perfect for sledding, snowballs, and snow people. So, in the pictures below you can see my creations. Yes, one is a pirate with an eye patch and a small treasure chest under his arm. The blond is a fairy. Unfortunately you can't see her crown or her wings very well. I was going to make vampire snowpeople, but young kids live in the houses directly across the street from me. I didn't think the parents would appreciate me spraying my lovely snowpeople with red food coloring for blood.

And for the curious -- no, I don't have any kids. It was just me goofing off in my front yard for a couple hours. I have no doubt that my neighbors think I'm insane.

Those are so cool! I didn't grow up in an area where there was a lot of snow, so the only times I got to make snowpeople was when we went to Tahoe or somewhere similar during winter break to go skiing and the like. But it's hard to do! On the occasions that we did get snow in Tx, it was only a couple of inches, and not for very long, so my bro and I made little snowmen six inches tall and stuffed them in the freezer. We decorated their eyes and noses and mouths with sprinkles.
