13 Stories To Read While I'm Gone

Today is my last day in Wisconsin.  Late tonight, we're packing up the car with the animals and the last of our things to begin the long trek south -- deep south to South Florida.  I'll be leaving behind mounds of snow, frigid temperatures, ice-covered sidewalks, and worries about a thing called Wind Chill.  I am headed to the land of warm, where I will have easy access to beaches, those cute little lizards that are everywhere, and Disney World.  I think this is a good trade.

While it will probably be a while before my house is in some semblance of order and I'm back online at a regular schedule, I wanted to leave you with somethings to keep you busy (you know, in case you missed my sparkling personality).

One of my favorite authors -- Dani Worth -- released a new book yesterday.  It's part of her post-apocalypse series, Crux Survivors. Sole Survivors came out Tuesday and is the second book in the series.  The first is After the Crux.  I read the first one and loved it.  I'm waiting for the dust to settle so I can start the second book.

Another amazing author I love -- Vicki Pettersson -- has the second book in her Celestial Blues series on sale.  If you haven't started this series yet, it's a great time!  The first book is THE TAKEN.  The second book is THE LOST, which is currently on sale for only $0.99 as an e-book.  If you love both of those, then you can pre-order the last book in the series, THE GIVEN, which comes out May 27.

yeah... yeah... I've been lost in revisions and haven't stuck my head out for much recently.  I promise to give an update later this week.  Today, I'm here to talk about some of the awesome books that have been released recently.

The past two weeks have featured books from some of my favorite authors.  Just in case you haven't caught all the coolness that has come out recently, let me provide you with an interesting list.

Last week saw the release of the second book in Vicki Pettersson's Celestial Blues series.

Angels & Devils

Mondays frequently prove to be a hodgepodge of random for me as I catch on things before launching into writing.  I've been slowly pulling together thoughts for a mini-blog tour to celebrate the release of The Asylum Interviews: Bronx on July 3 as well as making some notes for a new project that I am working on.  And there's the usual emails, blog entries, cleaning, and video gaming that makes every day complete.

So, for today's blog, I've got just a list of random things that you should be aware of.

First, the lovely Vicki Pettersson has a new book/series kicking off in less than a month.  The first book in the Celestial Blues is called The Taken, and I think it looks pretty darn awesome.  I haven't read it yet and I'm looking forward to picking up my copy when Ms. Pettersson comes to the Cincinnati area on June 20.

In the realm of new books, Richard Kadrey has released the cover for the fourth Sandman Slim novel, Devil Said Bang.  I really do love this series and this is a fantastic cover!  The book will be released August 28.

And then on Twitter, I caught that Book Club Girl has provided links to a Book Club Ebook Bonanza.  There's a list of 12 great books that an inexpensively priced.

Let's see, Nicole Murphy has a cool post over at Supernatural Underground today about the skills learned while pursuing self-publishing.  She also has a new story available to read for free! 

Finally, if you aren't getting enough of me, I do also maintain a Tumblr page where I post my more random stuff as well as a discussion board that is open for comments.  I do check it at least once a day and answer questions as quickly as possible.

Oodles of News

The week is half over and I haven't been as productive as I would have liked, but hey! I just finished a book.  The brain needs a little down time before I start being insanely productive again.  I've been writing, but it's been mostly playing that could turn into something later.  We'll see.

I did, however, clean off my white board of all my Book 2 notes on Tuesday and I've slowly started making notes on what I would like to do next (in the hopes that my publisher is interested in a "next").  I've got several balls sort of sitting on the table next to me.  I am waiting for a couple of green lights before I start trying to juggle anything.  I hate to find myself juggling only to be forced to put it down later or risk dropping it altogether.

In the meantime, I do have a couple small announcements.  A few months ago, I participated in an 30-minute interview with the lovely Vicki Pettersson (of the Zodiac and Celestial Blues series) and the talented Kim Harrison (of the Hollows series).  We talked about ending our old series, starting a new series, and general urban fantasy goodness.  If you would like to listen to this awesome interview we did for XM Sirius Book Channel, please click this link.

 Elsewhere, I am happy to report that my new novellas are now available for pre-order.  Whoo-hoo!  Yes, we are one step closer to diving deep into the world of the Asylum Tales.  Since it's a crazy place, I thought it best to ease you in slowly and introduce you to some of the main characters.  The first novella being released is The Asylum Interviews: Bronx.

The Asylum Interviews: Bronx

The novella takes place about four years before the events of the first novel, Angel's Ink and is the story of how my main character Gage met and hired his first employee, Bronx.  With Gage involved, it will come as no surprise that it was a strange meeting as the troll Bronx quickly gets sucked into Gage's insane life when he was only trying to help the poor guy.

In Low Town, where humans walk and work side-by-side with elves, vampires, ogres, and all manner of creature, it's understandable that people occasionally need a little help in their lives.  Whether is love, work, or ... other, tattoo artists are there to try to help turn the odds into your favor.  When Gage's friend Parker needs help with his love life, tattoo artists Gage and Bronx are only too happy to help.  But the incubus ends up getting more than he bargained for with his new tattoo, and his friends are forced to scramble to fix the mess they've created before  someone gets hurt.

Author Spotting

There really isn’t much to report today.  I’m chipping away at the second book in the Asylum Tales series, which is due to my editor on the first of April.  It’s going to be a close one.  This book just doesn’t want to reveal its secrets to me all at once.  I’m pealing back layer after layer to get to the center of all things.  While the process is a bit nerve-wracking, I can’t complain too much as the journey has been exciting for me.  I’m learning so much about the characters and their world.  It’s all proving to be much bigger than I had ever expected.

In the meantime, I was goofing off on the internet a couple days ago, reading updates on the blogs of my fellow authors and friends when I discovered something wonderful.  The amazing Vicki Pettersson will be coming to my hometown this summer as part of her book tour.  She will be promoting her new series Celestial Blues and the release of its first book, The Taken.  In June, she will be passing through Cincinnati, Ohio – her only stop in the Midwest.  If you loved her Zodiac series, then you should stop by and see her when she hits a town near you this summer.  For more information on her upcoming tour, please click here.

This naturally got me thinking.  What other authors are currently out and about, promoting their books, answering your questions, and generally causing mischief wherever they go?

Want to see a bunch of authors at once?  Check out the upcoming Romantic Times Convention in mid-April in Chicago.  If you can't make it to the entire conference, there is a Giant Book Signing on Saturday, April 14 that is open to the public.  It costs only $5 at the door to get in and you have a chance to meet hundreds of authors in an enormous room.

 

Finally, Locus Magazine is a great place to get listings of authors who are currently touring.

When an author who writes in a genre that you enjoy comes to town, you should definitely make an effort to pop by their event.  It is a great way to not only support that author but also the local bookstore.  At most events, authors will read excerpts, answer questions, divulge interesting insight and secrets, and autograph books.  You can always make a great night of it.  Grab a significant other or a group of friends.  Meet for dinner before the event or have drinks afterward so you can talk about your favorite scenes in your favorite books.  The authors and booksellers will love you for it.

Holiday Book Deals

The holidays are a time of getting together with family, eating too much food, and finding great deals on e-books!  I am excited to report that Harper Voyager and Avon are running some fantastic deals right now on some awesome e-books, and you don't want to miss out.

Do you have that friend who has yet to start the Dark Days series?  Do they need a copy of Nightwalker, but haven't bought it for their e-reader yet?  Well, the book is now available for only $1.99.  Such a small cost for the start of a great vampire series.

I'm a huge fan of the Hollows series by Kim Harrison but I have fallen behind in my reading.  However, I am looking forward to picking up this book (first editions glow in the dark!!).  I also love Lynsay Sands so I can't wait to get my hands on this book.  I haven't read Jeaniene's series yet, but I have three of her books on my TBR pile.  I promise to jump in soon.  I have also just started Pamela Palmer's Feral Warriors series and it is awesome.  I've devoured the first two books in three days.  I'll probably be finishing up the series this week.

Also, just a reminder, Richard Kadrey's Aloha from Hell came out last week.  It just arrived on my doorstep so I am torn between continuing with the Feral Warriors or returning to Sandman Slim.

Supernatural fantasy’s greatest anti-hero goes back to hell!

In Sandman Slim Stark came back from hell for revenge.

In Kill the Dead he tackled both a zombie plague and being Lucifer’s bodyguard.

Once again all is not right in L.A. Lucifer is back in Heaven, God is on vacation, and an insane killer mounts a war against both Heaven and Hell.

Stark’s got to head back down to his old stomping grounds in Hell to rescue his long lost love, stop an insane serial killer, prevent both Good and Evil from completely destroying each other, and stop the demonic Kissi from ruining the party for everyone.

Even for Sandman Slim, that’s a tall order. And it’s only the beginning.

And finally, here's a couple things to put on your radar.  Vicki Petterrson reported that her new book, The Taken is now available for pre-order on Amazon.  It's currently got a publication date of June 12.  This sent me searching  for my own book and lo and behold: TA-DA!  It's on Amazon for pre-order as well.  Right now, it is titled Angel Wings, but this could potentially change.  It also has a publication date of June 26, which should stay unchanged.
